Bret Michaels has been dubbed the Apprentice winner for this season of Celebrity Apprentice. It has been a rough year for Bret, as he suffered a brain hemorrhage, a small stroke, and appendicitis. The victor between Bret and Holly Robinson Peete in the Snapple flavor and ad campaign challenge would see the charity they were representing get a big cash infusion. Industry rumors had swirled that Michaels was to be fired from the show because “Slayer rules and Poison are false metal hacks in drag” though those rumors were quietly quenched.

The Apprentice winner that almost wasn’t

Bret Michaels path to becoming The Celebrity Apprentice winner was fraught with peril, as he had to spend some time in the hospital. He became a huge fan favorite thanks in part to his brave struggle with illness. He had a bout with appendicitis, and he got an appendectomy. He was later diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage after returning to the hospital complaining of severe headaches. After being released, he had a miniature stroke, called a transient ischemic attack, or a “warning stroke”. He was able to recover quickly and return to The Apprentice and give some instant cash to charity.

The final showdown for Celebrity Apprentice Season 3 was between Holly Robinson Peete and Bret Michaels. The challenge was to come up with a flavor and ad campaign for Snapple, and the winner would make their charity booku bucks.

What were their charities?

Michaels’ charitable organization of choice was the American Diabetes Association, while Peete’s is the HollyRod Foundation, started by Peete and her husband to help needy families care for impaired loved ones. Bret Michaels’ celebrity appeal and ad campaign appealed to Donald Trump a bit more, and he was the one that got hired.
